Working Principle

Hypochlorite generators operate based on the principle of electrolysis of saltwater. Specifically, they utilize a silicon rectifier to apply direct current (DC) across the anode and cathode within an electrolysis cell. This process causes the sodium chloride (NaCl) and water molecules in the saltwater to undergo chemical reactions. Chloride ions (Cl-) at the anode lose electrons and are oxidized into chlorine gas (Cl2), while hydrogen ions (H+) at the cathode gain electrons and are reduced into hydrogen gas (H2). Subsequently, the generated chlorine gas reacts with the sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution formed during electrolysis to produce hypochlorite sodium (NaClO) and sodium chloride (NaCl). By adjusting the electrolysis current, the device can precisely control the amount of hypochlorite produced, which is then distributed through a water injector or metering pump to areas requiring disinfection.

Notes:

1, Output & Residual Chlorine: The production rate and residual chlorine concentration are related to the operating current and brine concentration. A brine concentration of around 3.5% is recommended as optimal. Adjust the current within the suggested range. Overall, control the cell temperature around 35°C. Feed water must be treated by a softening device to prevent scaling. Regular acid cleaning to remove scale is necessary.

2, Disassembly Warning: Do not disassemble the electrolytic cell unless you are a qualified professional. During assembly/disassembly, tighten the flange bolts evenly to avoid damaging the equipment due to uneven force. A spare PTFE gasket is located under the negative electrode washer.

3, Operational Safety: Never energize the cell when it is empty. Drain the electrolyte from the cell after powering off or before prolonged shutdown. The electrolyzer must be installed level.

4,Brine Feeding: The flow rates of the concentrated brine pump and the dilution water pump should be set at a ratio of 1:6. Alternatively, pre-mixed diluted brine at the correct ratio can be directly filtered and fed into the cell.
