Working Principles
1. Ozone Generation (Electrolysis of Water)
- The device utilizes a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolytic cell to split water (H2O) into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2).
- Oxygen molecules (O2) are then subjected to a high-energy electric field, causing dissociation into oxygen atoms (O). These atoms recombine to form ozone (O3):
3O2 -- 2O3 (Electrolysis Reaction).
- Ozone is produced on-site, eliminating storage risks and ensuring freshness for immediate use.
2. Sodium Hypochlorite Production (With Salt Addition)
- When table salt (NaCl) is added to the water supply, the electrolysis process generates chlorine gas (Cl2) at the anode and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at the cathode:
2NaCl + 2H2O -- Cl2↑ + H2↑ + 2NaOH.
- Chlorine gas reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), a potent disinfectant:
Cl2 + 2NaOH -- NaCl + NaClO + H2O.
- This dual-function design allows seamless switching between ozone and NaClO production for versatile disinfection.
